MINISTRY OF WORKS OUT TO FURNISH ITS IMAGE

The perpetual effort put forth to redeem the construction industry have seen cement consumption going up by 16.2 per cent to 3.1million tonnes in 2010 compared to 2.7 million tonnes in 2009.

But much is needed to save the industry from the woods, for the increment of cement consumption to resonate with adherence to professionalism in the industry. To save ongoing building not to turn out to be tombs as its has been happening.

On, June 14,two people died and 14 others were trapped in rubble after a six-storey building under construction collapsed in Nairobi's Pipeline estate.

This brings bitter memories of such cases that have happened across the country. This leaves more questions than answers when will the construction industry get out of the woods?

In the recent past the Ministry of public works has put frantic effort to furnish it tainted image. It has held national conferences with constructors and other stakeholders to find a common ground on how to shake off the past that show tax payer monies going into the drain from numerous project that turned out to be white elephants.

However, the increase in cement consumption, projects that have been completed in the recent past is a clear indication that the ministry is walking in the right path notwithstanding it has several miles to go.
