The Bible equips its readers with thoroughness needed for daily living, says Sis. Elizabeth Muriuki of the Bible Societies of Kenya, BSK, adding that the Bible, unlike other books transforms lives.
A Bible is a life safer, she said in his official address during the flagging off procession of the Bible across the Kenya dubbed as “Follow the Bible.” “Bible ownership and reading can not be over emphasized.”
The East and Central Africa Division, ECD, President, Pr. Geoffrey Mbwana says that according to the recent survey less than 50 per cent of the church members have a daily Bible devotion, notwithstanding that two third of of the world population are Christians.
There is a sign of spiritual malnutrition in the church, Mbwana says, thus members need to feed on the word of God daily. He pointed out great apostasy, so many people falling into worldly trash, escalating crimes, rampant rapping cases, and cancerous corruption, as among the symptoms.Thus, the word of God need to lifted up for it's power to transform life of those who read it and listen to, he says.
Father Patrick Kanja Wachira, the University of Nairobi, Catholic chaplain says that the Bible is the standard for christian living and lifestyle - thus the need to prayerfully read it.
“Let the Word of God find a place in every room in the house. Keep the Bible, the bread of life, in plain sight,” says one christian writer: “The reading of God's Word does not fascinate the imagination and inflame the passions, like the fictions of a storybook, but it softens and soothes the heart, and elevates and sanctifies the affections.”
The 7 kilogram Bible, measuring 12” by 18” in 66 languages which started its journey in October, 2008 at Manila, Philippines, Asia is supposed to mark it's finishing mark at Atalanta Georgia, USA come July 2010.
According to the Bible society of Kenya, less than 50 per cent of the people in this region have their personal Bible. The church is initiating a programme where the Bible will be used as a key text for teaching how to read and write for the illiterate rank and file, says the SDA president.
Muriuki says that so far the Bible has been translated into 600 languages across the world: Kenya is endowed with 53 languages but only 17 complete Bible translation have been done so far. The General Secretary calls upon parents to instill discipline among their children from tender age using Biblical concepts as she high lighted that it takes 15 years to translate the Bible to any local language – with a cost of Ksh 15 million.
This follow up the Bible adventure which is supposed to ignite prayerful Bible reading culture across the world – kicked off in Kenya with it's arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International airport on 10th; yes, from Uhuru park it will be match across its 4 fields and 4 conferences before stepping out of Kenya via Uganda.
