DONATE A BOOK NAIROBIANS AND WELWISHERS REQUESTED

The Macmillan Memorial Library chief librarian Violet Wafula is making a passionate appeal to all Nairobian and well wishers to rally behind the soon to be launched campaign dubbed as: Nairobi a City that Reads by contributing at lest a book.

Mrs Wafula is of the idea that for any meaningful future to be realized reading culture should be fortified amongst the Nairobian which is the epicenter of Kenyan operations.

she envisions Nairobi as the capital city of Kenya to set an example whose streams of light can easily penetrate to other cities, towns and even Kenyan villages.

This campaign will be based on the premise of two books a week. Yes, Nairobians should start redeeming their time during the traffic jam and long hours of waiting and curing - such a time should be punctuated with reading from a book.

The librarian is encouraging people who find themselves "stranded" for one reason or another within the central business district (CBD) to visit the library. Reading from the library is free of charge. Only those people who are interested in borrow books are charged a fee for membership: Ksh 50 for children and Ksh 100 for adults per year.

Opinions on how to transform Nairobi into a city that reads are being sort from all - such views can be dropped at Macmillan Memorial Library along Banda street.

One the same note Mrs Wafula is requesting all Kenyan media houses to be donating their newspapers and magazines to the library for readers to access them.

The potential of subscribing for the newspapers withered when the Nairobi City Council took over the management of the library - from its perpetual financial constrains. She extends a heart of thanks to those media houses that have been generously donating their newspapers (daily) for the readers ever since.

The media houses are called upon to to champion this worthy course for it to become a reality.
