The award a brainchild of ICWE Africa, was designed to recognize and motivate teachers to integrate ICT in teaching and learning in Kenyan schools, says Leonard Mware the Managing Director. This will be an annual event thus teachers are advised to work hard in tapping ICT tools, says Mware.

Isaac Langat of Sosiot High School was the overall winner as the Winner of the the competition. The first runners up went to Wesley Rono of Maranda High School. Mr. Langat and Mr. Rono secured a air ticket to an e-Learning Africa Conference scheduled for Lusaka, Zambia on 26-28th May this year. The three winners who were among the seven teachers from across the country who submitted their entries for this award were each crowned with a laptop and a modem and Kenya Institute of Education (KIE) set of digital content “to go and share with their colleagues,” said Mrs. Lydia Nzomo the Director of the institute.

Mark Mutunga, Microsoft East and Southern Africa Education and Corporate Affairs Manager said that teachers need to come up with innovative and creative ways of contextually integrating ICT in teaching thus they can present such projects in the forth coming Microsoft Pan African ICT Integration and Innovation competition to held in Mombasa in the month August. Those teachers whose projects will carry the day will be accorded a place in the Global ICT Integration and Innovation competition which will be held in South Africa come October.

Last year a teacher from Uganda emerged second globally. This means Africa Can catch up with the rest of the world in using ICT as a tool of enhancing teaching and learning.
