A furious fire that must have resulted from electrical fault led to the destruction of properties worthy millions of shilling at Kisii village, south B, Nairobi. This fire which started at about 3:00 am this morning “as I heard something bursting,” says one of the residents in the nearby room – where the fire is believed to have started, he further noted that, “as I was getting out of bed I was welcomed into a world of ranging fire from the next room.”
He is among the hundreds of residents who saved nothing but life. The determined effort from the residents proved futile. “The mess of electrical connections made things worse,” says another resident, adding that “the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) must muster its stamina to reign upon this illegal electrical connections dubbed as 'cob web'.”But the residents were thankful this morning as they were counting their losses that the Nairobi city council fire brigades arrived in time to contain the fire before spreading it's tentacles to the surrounding environs.
This is the fourth time in the recent past when such horrific fires have been witnessed. Last year witnessed the burning down of the Masai village, Fuata Nyayo and Mukuru wa Njenga all separated by few miles.
All this fires are blamed on a cartel of people who are purporting themselves as KPLC agents who sell electrical energy at a price of Ksh 300 to Ksh 600 per month to the residents. Installation is done by the area “electrical technicians” whose neutral terminal is the iron sheets structures.
