NAMELESS

Nameless we grew together.

In the village,

Our homes were common rooms

But I only tell of your house by sight.

My longing to have a glance at your compound.

Is frustrated by your unwelcome.

Nameless, my playmate

My hope of our past arousing attachment is gone

For your hearing is filled wax

Too solid for a name of my status

Of unschooled, unlearned, uneducated, unemployed…

It has been my wish -

With the belief in Christianity

We’ll share a word in lesson discussion

But my lack of English masterly

Confines me from your class.

In the church too

Your position is too high to climb for a handshake

The side of your door is too far

To see thro’ after services

Nameless I am embattled by our brotherhood.
